Summer Reading

We have over 120 students and lots of our teachers partcipating in summer reading this year - fantastic.

Keep reading over the long break - it is the perfect time to relax and enjoy a good book.

Remember that everyone that posts a review to the OPAC will get a chocolate fish at the beginning of 2016 - students and teachers.

Look forward to hearing what books you would recommend to others next year MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Read Aloud

Our Term Two Read Aloud was a success this week.  Once a term the teachers head off to different classes and enjoy reading to them.  This week we had a "Readers Choice" and the teachers had so much fun sharing some of their favourite books.

Miss Evans reading to Room 11.

Miss Gledhill reading to Room 17.

Busy times!

We have had some busy times in the Redwood School Library recently.  We had a great visit from the author and illustrator Bob Kerr, an awesome show from Storylines about the book award finalists, all classes have seen the picture book finalists for the Book Awards and a group of book lovers read some of the junior novels.  We also took a group of kids to go see Dav Pilkey author of Captain Underpants speak recently.  Phew!!  All this and the library is under construction!!

A couple of pic's to keep you in the picture!!

Anzac Display

We have a lovely display in our library for Anzac Day and our focus on World War 1 this term.  Well done to the crochet club, who meet in the library once a week and enjoy the space while they crochet.

New Zealand Book Awards

We are very excited to be a Judge School for the Children's Choice in the New Zealand Book Awards.  We have opted to judge in both the Junior Fiction and Picture book sections.

We have a group of keen readers from Kereru Syndicate who are challenging themselves to read as many of the junior fiction novels as they can in the timeframe.  We will then meet as a group to put forward our finalists.  As students finish a novel they are completing a Discussion Points form to help.

The whole school will be reviewing the picture books and each class will vote on their semi finalist choice.

Happy New Year!

Welcome to 2015!!  The school year is up and running and it is good to see how busy the library has been.  I think the students missed us!!  Our summer reading programme was a great success, we were pleased with the reading results as well as the feedback from the students on the amount of reading they did over the summer.  The teachers were busy reading too, they are looking forward to sharing some of the books they read with their classes this year.

Keep an eye out for what Mrs Goodin is reading - when you stop by her desk you will see the most recent book she has read - I bet she makes some interesting choices.
